Nitrite levels are 2 ppm!
on: December 17, 2012, 05:30

Hello everyone, I am new at the forum and want your help for a problem I have with my fish.

Well, for starters got to tell u I have a new system and just put to it 75 silver perch. The ammonia levels are almost zero but the nitrites are 2 ppm, wonder what I have to do for the matter, just wait to see if it will reduce or do what I read in some source and add some salt?

You can make water change and then add some salt too.

Are you still reading nitrite levels? How old is your system and when did you first take nitrite levels? What is the pH level?

The system is five weeks old but with 5 maroons only, the nitrate between 5-10 ppm and pH 7.8W

Why you suggest the salt? It helps to drop the nitrite? Why not stop the fish feed for one, two days and check the nitrites again? Sorry If i confuse instead of help, just said my idea.

Oupss sorry sorry!! The stop feeding goes together with the water change when we want to decrease the nitrite and ammonia levels!! Sorry again for the mistake!

I advise you to increase the oxygen and put salt, I m not sure if only the water change can help you

Nitrites have to be below 0.5 to don’t make you problem, also you have to add 17 ppm salt for each ppm of nitrite you have.
