on: October 17, 2012, 10:22

Wonder if any of you has tried aquaponics potatoes,i want to give it a try cause i lovee potatoes and whats better than to have them without any fertilizers at my backyard? Want to ask what is the best substrate for them, can it be Hydroton?also want to know if there is some system to mound them up.</p>

Do not think you will have success with aquaponics potatoes. My opinion is if you want so much to have your own potatoes, try to make a normal potato patch and only water it by your Aquaponics system s water

Havent actually tried potatoes, but today i ripped the weet potatoes vine out of my hydroton grow bed.It was feral. The grow bed is full with hundred sweet potatoes, not all of them ready ,but some in a good size as indication of their final growth here.

I did not eat them yet but from the color(dull inside)i can say they will have little taste-cause the grow bed is watered right now by couple of fishes so the nutrients not enough-

If the nutrients levels will be higher the results will be better but for my case i dont worry cause i was planning to replant the sweet potatoes in soil anyway(i used the AP to sprout them only)

I think i will not bother myself again with sweet potatoes in AP.:)
